Downloadable notes for workshop presented at the Faith Baptist Bible College Refresh Conference on February 3, 2022. Is Self-Care Selfish? Stewarding Your Personal Life for Long-Term Ministry. The blog post following this one is the same material in article format.

I’m contacting you because I don’t agree with your article entitled “Butterflies Aren’t In the Bible. Wait . . .”
Butterflies aren’t the only examples of transformation.
The universe is constantly changing. Some empirical manifestations of change are: lunar phases, seasons of the Earth, periodical cicadas emergence, arthropods molt, somatic cells cycling through G1-S-G2-M, protein synthesis… In other words, living creatures exist within transformation. The truth is that without development and maturation, there is no fulfillment (as in completion), and human existence is about fulfillment in meaning and in purpose. Human existence is about relationship to God and with God. Without God, we are nothing.
People who like and who tend to use butterflies to exemplify metamorphosis are simple-minded and have a superficial understanding of growth and increase.
Furthermore, the monarch butterfly is the symbol of MK-ULTRA that I’m subjected to. As a victim and a survivor of MK-ULTRA, I’m disappointed that “Christians” are drawn to butterflies the same way pagans and occult practitioners are. Witches love the image of the butterfly because it represents superficial beauty and charm.
